Hello everyone! A word from Halee, here. 🙂 The following post is from my good friend, Caitlyn, who is one of our new contributing authors! I hope you enjoy it and check out her bio here: here.
Being salt and light is a huge calling, but one that is hard to live out in our world today.
Our world full of sin, temptation, hungry souls, and just plain ol’ hardship. Today I would like to share with you about how to practically be salt and light to those around you on a daily basis. Being salt and light and shining Christlike love to those around you is not something you have to go on a mission’s trip to do. You can do it where you are. Just like Esther, you are here for such a time as this.
One thing that I’ve realized lately, is that I can reach out to people I know. I was thinking one night, who can I reach out to?? Then I realized – I have a bunch of friends – from church, Bible study, etc.
I realized something else that really changed my perspective – I know all these people for a distinct reason and purpose. God didn’t bring us together for no reason!
Lastly, I realized that for me, reaching out could mean inviting people to my church or Bible study. It doesn’t have to always be an elaborate act. random acts of kindness can have a huge impact.
Stop for a moment and think about everyone you know.
Are there some unsaved people, or people who are saved but don’t live like that? How can you effectively reach out to them? Maybe send a text and invite them to church? Maybe invite them over to study the Word one afternoon with you? Or maybe, you don’t know too many people you can reach out to, and doing some random acts of kindness is more your thing.
As you can tell, being salt and light looks different for different people. We weren’t all made to fit into a cookie cutter. Some people write. Some people are missionaries. It’s up to you to ask Jesus where He has you right now and what He wants you to do. I’m sure He has an awesome plan for you, my friend! Keep seeking Him, and strive each day to be love, light, and hope to those around you, even if it’s just loving on your family! Go, and shine the light of Jesus. It’s a worthy and amazing calling!
“You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot. You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”
